According to Singapore's "Lianhe Zaobao" reported on the 18th, the official gazette of the European Union said that the European Union will activate protection measures on Thursday (19th) to prevent a surge in steel imports into the EU after the United States imposed tariffs on imported steel and aluminum.
The European Commission has proposed a combination of quotas and tariffs to deal with the EU's concerns that steel products no longer exported to the United States may instead flood the European market.
Lianhe Zaobao quoted a Reuters report that the quotas for 23 steel products were set based on the import situation in the past three years, and imported steel products exceeding the quotas will be subject to a 25% tariff.
According to reports, the main countries exporting steel to the EU are China, India, Russia, South Korea, Turkey and Ukraine.
